Calling Middle Grade Students Interested in
Building Telescopes & Learning About Astronomy
If you are a student that will be entering into 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grade in August 2012, we would like you to apply for this summer workshop. You will spend the first week learning how to build a telescope, how to access astronomical images from databanks and how to use a robotic telescope. During your second week you will learn how to conduct a science project using what you learned in the first week.
We will have 1 teacher for every 2 or 3 students so that you have lost of attention and support. There is no cost for this workshop and you will receive lunch and snacks free. The workshop will take place on the Oakwood School campus, 4000 MacGregor Downs Rd., Greenville, NC 27834. map and directions: http://theoakwoodschool.org/directions.php
If you are interested in participating, you will be required to register using the form below. We are an equal opportunity group and would like to encourage students from low income families; students of Latino, African American, Native American, Polynesian or Asian descent/ethnicity; and female students to apply. All students that register will be considered; however, there is a limited number of students that can attend and registration will be on a first come first serve basis. Because everyday builds on lessons and activities from the previous days, students that register are required to attend the full workshop: July 16th - 20th and July 23rd - 27th; from 8am - 4pm. If you are not able to attend the full time, please do not register.
